Great Grand Son of Vincent van Gogh Offers Fine Art Paintings
Jesse LaPrade paints much like Vincent van Gogh, his great-grandfather. LaPrade, like van Gogh, is mostly self-taught. Most of his work involves seascapes, and he has a web site gallery to display his artwork.

/New Hampshire News Articles/ - AUBURN, AL, October 11, 2006 - Like his great-grandfather, Vincent van Gogh, Jesse LaPrade began painting later in life and in doing so has discovered a natural talent in a style reminiscent of van Gogh's expressionism.

Van Gogh's paintings are marked by a bold and distorted style, with visible dotted or dashed brush marks, sometimes in swirling or wave-like patterns, which are intensely yet subtly colored. His great-grandson offers a similar style in his seascape paintings.

"I find great inspiration in creating large breaking waves from many countries. I truly believe that these waves are a gift directly from God. I cannot see how anyone can proclaim 'there is no God' after witnessing one of these beauties for real. These waves are not easy for me to paint, but the inspiration from even seeing a picture, helps me to find a way to depict the image along with my added feature or features that I always incorporate," explained LaPrade.

He has only learned of his relationship to van Gogh in 1993 through a 20-page letter from his adoptive father, left behind after his death. The details of the letter and the story of the personal challenges he has had to overcome are provided on his web site at http://www.SeaScapesByJesse.com, along with a gallery of many of his beautiful fine art paintings.

Van Gogh was largely self-taught, and the same is true of LaPrade.

Painting was a form of therapy after a period of depression in his life, and it was then that he discovered a talent he had previously not been aware of.

LaPrade only makes a select few originals available for sale, but instead offers original, hand-painted prints of any of the paintings shown in the gallery on his web site. The process requires 30 to 45 days and results in a unique print like no other.

"I photograph the original, print the image on canvas, then hand paint over the printed image with oil paint to give it texture. So each hand-painted print is similar, but unique from others of the same original painting," explained LaPrade.
